Rachel receives the Invacare Zephyr power wheelchair!

7th January 2008

Rachel and her certificateIn September 2007, Rachel Mougin made a dream come true when she travelled from La-Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland to the South of France in a power wheelchair.

Invacare sponsored Rachel's inspiring project by lending the 24 year-old woman an Invacare Zephyr power chair, which helped Rachel cover the ambitious 850 km journey in just 17 days.

Rachel stated that she was delighted with her Invacare Zephyr, which proved a perfect companion for the challenging expedition. Rachel was so pleased with her Zephyr that Invacare decided to reward the ambitious young woman with the wheelchair as a permanent travelling 'companion'.

Rachel's family, friends, Invacare International and the association that supported her met on November 28th at the Foyer Handicap in La-Chaux-de-Fonds to present Rachel with her Invacare Zephyr. Everyone involved kept the gift a secret and Rachel was full of surprise as the huge cardboard box opened to reveal the Zephyr power chair.

All those at Invacare are proud to have been part of Rachel's amazing journey.

Happy New Year Rachel!

Rachel has made her dream come true!

26.09.2007

Rachel arrived at the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer on Monday 24th September after 17 days of travel. Her trip has been much quicker than expected and everything went well.

The young woman has been very happy of her Invacare® Zephyr wheelchair which appeared to be a perfect companion for this adventure.

Rachel was well tanned and smiling when she arrived in front of a few elected representatives of the town, who gave her a medal for all the efforts she made.

Invacare is very proud to have supported this young woman until the achievement of her dream. All the employees of the group would like to congratulate her for this great challenge and wish her the best for the future!

19.09.07

On 13th September 2007, a group of people from Invacare and GEBOA SA went to the small camping of Chanaz (in the region of Savoy, near the lake of Le Bourget) to visit Rachel and her whole team.

Rachel was lovely and so happy to make her dream come true. We discussed about her dream and her impressions.

The team of Rachel is composed of 3 persons who will be replaced every week. Mr. Patthey, President of the ExpeHandicap association, Mrs Brunner, who works at the Foyer Handicap and Mr. Humbert-Droz, a retired volunteer.

Rachel and her team think they will end their trip in advance. It should take them around 21 days to arrive to the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. The speed record was of 54km in one day and the speed average is of 8 to 10 km/h. The young woman is very happy of her Invacare® Zephyr wheelchair, which has proved to be a perfect companion for this great adventure!

A nice and welcoming team supports Rachel in her dream and Invacare is proud to be their partner.

08.09.2007

Invacare is proud to sponsor Rachel Mougin, a 24-year old woman who was born tetraplegic. Earlier this year Rachel decided to make her dream come true - that of travelling all the way to the sea in a power wheelchair

Rachel’s 850km journey began in her home town of La-Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland and will finish in Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, in the South of France. This exciting challenge started on Saturday 8th September and, according to the estimates of Rachel’s team, will take approximately one month.

Rachel undertakes her expedition on the Invacare® Zephyr, a brand new power wheelchair, launched in March 2007.

The wheelchair is equipped with a GPS system, made available by the Swiss company GEBOA SA and which enables supporters to follow this incredible adventure ‘wheel-by-wheel’ on this website. Stopover reports will be published regularly.

To facilitate Rachel’s journey, Invacare provides 24-hour technical assistance to ensure maximum safety and optimum comfort.

Invacare and its employees all wish Rachel a great trip and
sincerely hope
that her dream will come true!
