The 24th edition from the Lisbon International Half Marathon reaches new heights

A record breaking 35,000 people have registered to take part in the 24th edition from the Lisbon International Half Marathon. The fastest Half Marathon in the World, with the IAAF Gold Label Road Race is also well known by the quality of the Elite field who attend.

This year the CTT Wheelchair Division will be sponsored by Invacare, the world’s leading manufacturer and distributer of ground-breaking medical equipment, whose innovative products help to create better lives for people all around the world.

A star-studded line up

Elite Paralympic athletes will grace the CTT Wheelchair Competition on March 24th. Appearing in the T53/54 classification is a stunning line up that includes the paralympic Team Invacare legend, Heinz Frei from Switzerland. Also featuring is South African Ernst Van Dyk, the Team Invacare champion who collected a whole host of medals ranging from the Paralympic Games in Barcelona (1992) right the way through to London 2012. No stranger to success himself is the world record holder of 800, 1500, 5000 and 10,000-meter events, Marcel Hug from Switzerland.

No major event would be complete without a world record attempt, and two participants looking to do just that in the T52 class, are Santiago Sanz from Spain and Team Invacare Thomas Geierspichler from Austria.

One to keep an eye out for is Britain’s Jade Jones with only 17 years old who faces a fascinating battle against Swiss athletes Sandra Hager and Patricia Keller.

Portugal’s finest

On the home-grown front, and looking to improve their personal bests, are Portugal’s Alberto Batista and Alexandrino Silva.

The youngest portuguese athlete in the competition is Filipe Carneiro with 22 years old. Supported by Invacare Portugal, Filipe returns to competitive action after a long break due an injury.
