Over 40’000 athletes attended the 23rd edition of the Lisbon International Half Marathon occurring on March 24th! Lisbon Half Marathon is among the few athletics events in the world which enjoys the status of being an IAAF Gold Label Road Race, bringing worldwide recognition to the country.
Invacare Portugal is overwhelmed to support such a spectacular and popular race.
The wheelchair race started three minutes before the general Half Marathon and 31 disabled athletes participated.
Men wheelchair race was won by the Spanish Roger Puigbo who fought hard against the Swiss legend and Team Invacare athlete, Heinz Frei. Both athletes who competed with Invacare® Top End®Eliminator OSR wheelchairs crossed the finish line at the same time (00:44:31). Jordi Madera from Spain, came 3rd (00:44:36), after another superb sprint by the South African Team Invacare athlete, Ernst Van Dyk.
The best Portuguese wheelchair athlete was Alexandrino Silva, who finished the competition in the 10th overall position (00:52:14).

In the women’s wheelchair race, Jade Jones, a Great Britain athlete, who competed in a very special Invacare® Top End®Eliminator OSR wheelchair, was the 1st female participant to cross the line (00:58:44). It was an incredible race from the British athlete, who is only 17 years old. Patricia Keller, from Switzerland, came second (01:00:52).
