But the key features don’t end there. Alongside the ground breaking folding system, the Action5 is also highly configurable and benefits from quick step-less adjustability providing the stability of a rigid chair.

It is the folding mechanism, developed by a team of specialists in France that really sets the Action5 apart from the competition, particularly in terms of the improved level of stability when compared with other folding chairs currently available.

The folding design also allows the backrest to fold on top of the seat, which enables the chair to be greatly reduced in size, making it highly compact and simple to stow in a boot or other luggage compartment. No additional handling is required whilst the chair is being folded and due to the secure locking mechanism, it enables it to fold in one smooth movement.

The patented backrest mechanism provides step-less adjustability that makes assessments and fittings both quick and easy, ensuring a perfect fit for each individual user and the handy addition of a built in scale allows for the setting of a more accurate backrest angle. These adjustments can be made whilst the user remains seated in the wheelchair avoiding transferring out.

The new Action⁵ wheelchair has been awarded the coveted Product Design Award 2015 from Red Dot. Only products that stand out clearly for quality and innovative power are awarded the highly sought-after seal of quality from Red Dot's judging panel - and the Action5 achieved this endorsement by winning over the 38-member judging panel.

Helping Invacare's Action5 to win the highly competitive award were two new, innovative patent:

       - The first, a unique, self-locking, H-shaped folding mechanism, providing an improved level of stability against other folding chairs in the marketplace, leading to a smoother driving experience for the use.
       - The second is a new backrest system, which allows angle adjustments to be made to the backrest whilst the user remains seated. This leads to quicker and easier fittings, with chair adjustments taking only a few seconds.

What also makes the Action⁵ very special is the ease with which it can be configured to suit individual requirements. Adjustments in tension and seat depth can be made via easy to use straps and both the centre of gravity and camber can be fine-tuned.

A number of different leg rest options are available and other accessories - a backrest cover, including pocket and reflective strip for better visibility and an active anti-tipper that can be operated by both the user and carer. There’s even a selection of front wheels that include a stylish aluminium soft roll option along with a range of lightweight rear wheels.

Finally, the Action⁵ wouldn’t be a perfect fit for a user’s lifestyle if it didn’t come with a range of individual colour finishes. Frames come in a choice of ten colours that are both neutral and vibrant, with additional 3 colour accents to choose from.
